Roshi Alfred Jitsudo Ancheta, one of twelve Dharma Successors of Japanese Zen master Maezumi Roshi, was a Zen monk with Taoist leanings. He taught traditional Japanese Zen practice for three decades in California and New Mexico. Being a Dharma Successor of Bernie Glassman as well, he worked to promote peace and interfaith understanding, in conjunction with the worldwide Zen Peacemaker Order based in Massachusetts, and was co-founder of the Center for the Promotion of Peace, a non-profit service organization in Albuquerque, N.M. Before he retired, Jitsudo developed a practice in the art of woodblock printmaking, and his original work is in fine collections around the country.
Jitsudo Roshi passed on May 9, 2020 after years of bravely struggling with Alzheimer’s. His woodblock prints are still in production in the form of fine limited edition giclées, available through the Center for the Promotion of Peace.
